In the advanced internet age calling a hotel is still the best way to understand how to confirm a room that suits the needs of your family or group. Here’s why:
1. Additional room options may be available by contacting the hotel directly
Some room types are just hard to load to the internet, or may never be listed online by the hotel.
Contacting a hotel direct will open up options for you that you may never have known existed giving you a wider choice. Even if you have already made a booking online it may be possible to upgrade direct with another room type.
2. Extra perks can be available when booking direct
The benefits can extend beyond getting the best room type.
Some hotels may be able to make a more personalised offer for you if you contact them directly. This could be free breakfast, free parking, a welcome drink. Explain your full requirements and you may be surprised at the extras available.
3. It’s not just about the Price!
Calling the hotel is not about haggling (at least not initially!)
Remember your aim here is to get the most suitable room for your family group not the cheapest. The advice you get by speaking to someone to get one great room or suite for your requirements is much more valuable that getting a once that doesn’t suit to save a few pennies or cents?
4. Speak to the hotel not the main reservation line
The information you are getting will generally be the best if you are speaking to someone at the hotel not a call centre.
Try and find the hotel direct line (this may need a bit of extra research for a major chain) so you can speak to some who knows the exact layouts of their specific hotel. If you speak to a call centre there is much less likely to be any specialist knowledge.
