Pembrokeshire Family Accommodation: YHA Broad Haven Hostel Review

Intro

Planning a family trip to Pembrokeshire with 5 people isn’t always easy — especially when you’re trying to find accommodation that actually fits everyone in one room. Most hotels in the area don’t offer family rooms for 5 or more, and holiday rentals often insist on 4- or 7-night minimum stays. That’s where YHA Broad Haven comes in. With private rooms for up to 6 people, right next to one of Wales’ best beaches, it’s a brilliant solution for families like ours.

We paid £115 per night (including breakfast) for our stay, and here’s what we found.

1. Location: A Beach on Your Doorstep

You can’t beat the setting. YHA Broad Haven sits just a couple of minutes’ walk from a blue flag beach — perfect for sandcastles, bodyboarding, or just watching the waves. Parking is free for hostel guests, which means you save on beach car park fees and have the convenience of walking back and forth with beach gear (a lifesaver if you’ve got kids who always forget something!).

The location was important to us as a base for a day trip to Skomer Island.

2. Rooms: Private Space for Families of 5 or 6

We stayed in a private family room with 3 bunk beds, comfortably sleeping all 5 of us with room to spare. Bedding is included, but you’ll need to bring your own towels (or hire them if available). The setup is simple but practical, with plenty of space to stash luggage.

The ensuite bathroom is basic — the shower isn’t separate, so the floor does get wet — but it does the job. At this price point, you can’t really complain.

YHA Broad Haven offers private rooms for 2, 4, 5, and 6 people, which makes it a rare find for bigger families.

3. Food and Facilities: More Than Just a Bed

One of the best things about staying at a hostel is the flexibility. YHA Broad Haven has a well-equipped self-catering kitchen, but if you don’t fancy cooking, you can book meals too. We tried the breakfast, which was excellent value — especially with the kids-eat-for-£1 offer. It’s freshly cooked, not sitting around, and there’s a choice of hot and cold options.

Evening meals are available at the hostel, plus there’s a pub, restaurant, and fish & chip shop in the village. For downtime, our kids loved the games room, complete with a pool table, puzzles, and board games, while we enjoyed the book swap corner.

Conclusion: A Budget-Friendly Family Base in Pembrokeshire

For around £120 a night including breakfast, YHA Broad Haven gave us everything we needed — a private room for all 5 of us, a brilliant location by the beach, and the bonus of both catering options and family-friendly facilities.

If you’re planning a short break in Pembrokeshire, especially with kids, this hostel is a fantastic alternative to pricier hotels or restrictive rentals. It proves that youth hostels with private family rooms can be an affordable, practical, and fun option for bigger families.
